Although this has taken me far too long to write about, it is certainly not without great pride that I announce Penzance Sailing Club have awarded me the Brian Sanders memorial trophy.
Brian was a great friend of our family as well as that of many local sailors in and around Penzance and was often be seen out on the water on his E-boat 'Smiling Tree'. He was very much into the single handed sailing scene and had even entered the 1979 Mini Transat race from Penzance, unfortunately in the end he could not make the race but instead he loaned the boat to a friend, John Tomlinson who completed the course in his place. Brian sadly never had the chance again to race the Mini Transat, and it was a very black day for all when, out on a day sail, he fell overboard and was drowned by his own harness line. His loss was greatly felt by the Penwith sailing community, and in order to celebrate his life, every so often PZSC awards this trophy in his memory.
So it is a great honour for me to be awarded this trophy, and my many thanks to all at PZSC, it's really great to know your behind me and my campaign.
